Environmental Education And Awareness

SEPSiL engages schools, communities, local authorities, civil society organizations, and other stakeholders through awareness campaigns, training, outreach, workshops, and educational activities. The aim is to build environmental knowledge, encourage community action, promote sustainable lifestyles, and strengthen public participation in environmental protection and decision-making.

Water and Aquatic Ecosystem Conservation

Our work, among others, also focuses on the protection, restoration, and sustainable management of Sierra Leone’s rivers, wetlands, lakes, coastal areas, and other aquatic ecosystems. We promote actions that reduce water pollution, protect water sources, conserve aquatic biodiversity, and encourage sustainable use of water resources. This strongly emphasizes community stewardship in protecting waterways and strengthening resilience to threats such as pollution, flooding, erosion, and climate change.

Waste Management and Pollution Control

SEPSiL promotes environmentally responsible waste-management practices and works to reduce pollution from households, businesses, industries, agriculture, and other human activities. Particular emphasis is placed on waste reduction, recycling, public cleanliness, pollution prevention, and community participation in maintaining healthy and sustainable environments.

Biodiversity and Habitat Management

SEPSiL works with local communities and national institutions in conserving Sierra Leone’s diverse plant and animal species and protecting the natural habitats on which they depend. We support and encourage community-based conservation of forests, wetlands, coastal ecosystems, and other critical habitats while promoting measures to address habitat degradation, deforestation, wildlife loss, and other threats to biodiversity.

Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation

SEPSiL works collaboratively with like-minded actors to promote adaptation measures that help communities and ecosystems cope with climate-related risks such as flooding, coastal erosion, drought, and changing weather patterns. We also support local initiatives that promote mitigation actions that reduce greenhouse-gas emissions, including tree planting, ecosystem restoration, renewable energy, energy efficiency, and other low-carbon practices.
