OUR THEMATIC AREAS

Environmental Education

SEPSiL prioritizes environmental education as a cornerstone for long-term change in attitudes and practices around pollution and natural resource use. This thematic area seeks to instill environmental consciousness at all levels of society—children, youth, women, policymakers, and community leaders.

Policy Advocacy

SEPSiL recognizes that sustainable change requires strong governance frameworks. Through evidence-based advocacy, SEPSiL engages with policymakers and decision-makers to support the creation and/or review of national policies and other legal frameworks for pollution control, sustainable livelihoods, and climate action.

Climate Resilience and Environmental Sustainability

SEPSiL works directly with communities, and strongly collaborates with state and non-state actors to strengthen community resilience to climate change through restoration of degraded ecosystems, promotion of climate-smart agriculture and agroforestry, among others. This thematic area integrates pollution control with ecosystem restoration and green livelihoods.

Innovation and Technology

SEPSiL leverages modern and locally adaptable technologies and innovative approaches to combat pollution and enhance environmental sustainability. By integrating science, indigenous knowledge, and digital tools, SEPSiL drives efficiency, accountability, youth and gender empowerment.

We collaborate with local communities and plastic recycling outfits to remove waste plastic materials from communities and transform them into useful products for construction and domestic purposes, thereby creating jobs and generating income for deprived homes.

Also in our advocacy drive, SEPSiL emphasizes for increased utilization of renewable energy sources in cities and local communities in Sierra Leone. The application of renewable energy, including solar, hydro and wind power, lowers CO2 and other harmful emissions, contributing to global climate change mitigation.
